You know what’s lame? Thinking you don’t have an accent. This lady is not lame. She has many.

1. That was brilliant. I have two accents… middle eastern, and scottish. Everything else I try to do becomes a combination of the two. It’s embarrassing.
2. I don’t have an accent. Fact.

Once in Puerto Rico an older American woman (older than me, that is) said something about my Canadian accent, and I said back (with a smile) something to the effect that I didn’t have an accent–she did. I’ll never forget the surprised and offended look on her face. Apparently it hadn’t occurred to her that we each perceive accents differently depending on what we’re used to.
I’m rather partial to West Virginian accents myself!
