If you build a relationship (and work hard), they will come?

Item: I don’t know where the above comic is from, but if some one will let me know, I’d love to credit them. Very funny-like. UPDATE: Apparently, according to unnamed sources named Jessica, this cartoon is by Phil Selby. She somehow located that by reading the print on the cartoon. Eyes! Reading! Who knew they’d be so useful in tandem. More on funny cartoons later (not in this post, but later on in different posts).
Item: My brother (according to the law) and former (future?) Maple Mountain co-pilot sent this link to me. Very encouraging. Here’s the best part.
“There are over six billion people on the planet. If the work you do and/or are interested in is even halfway decent, and you are persistent in creating/supporting it, it will find an audience. Those who write the lousy reviews won’t get it no matter what you do, so don’t worry about trying to make them happy. And the readers who already like the work are your people to begin with, and should be embraced, so you can celebrate, together, the writing and art that delights and inspires you all.”
Not that I have to wade through mountains of bad reviews -I’m just happy when anyone notices- but the point is about connecting with the people who care and appreciate what you do. In that regard I would include you people with terrible judgement who frequent this blog. So thanks, I have this feeling of intense liking towards you that, as a man, makes me very uncomfortable.
Seriously, I appreciate the many of you who routinely encourage me both in person and elsewhere with your comments, your e-mails and your backslapping. You are cool.
